Requirements for Capability Uplift

As the whole market is becoming more competitive due to multiple internal

and external competitive forces, it is essential for an organisation to train

their employees and provide them enough support. The talented and loyal

resources can differentiate the organisation to compete in the market.

Steps to establish a successful Capability Uplift initiative

One tool or solution does not fit all. In order to establish a successful capa-

bility uplift programme in the organisation, resources need to be motivated

to participate and appreciate it. The following are the steps to set up a suc-

cessful capability uplift initiative.

• Based on the assessment of resources and their existing skills, a job

role versus skills/talent matrix needs to be created as a baseline.

• Once the baseline has been established, a skills improvement pro-

gramme needs to be created for individuals. The skills improvement

programme should be personalised to individual employees based on

their existing skills and targeted job role requiring new skills.

• In-house and external training programmes need to be set up to pro-

vide bespoke training to the employees.

• Set up an internship programme for employees post the theoretical

training, so they get practical experience focussed specifically on the

new job role requirements.

• KPI (key performance matrix) should be set up to measure the success

of the capability uplift initiative and success factors for the individual

resources.

• Once the training and internship programme have been completed,

the resource could be placed under the new job role.

Benefits of the Capability Uplift initiative:

There are multiple benefits of training the employees through the capability

uplift programme. The following are some of the benefits that can differen-

tiate the organisation:

• By evaluating and appreciating the loyal internal employees and pro-

viding them opportunities to grow and be productive, an organisation

can create a talented human capital.

• A capability uplift programme can also be beneficial to train newly

hired employees and prepare them to carry out the job activity effec-

tively and productively.

• The organisation can attain a competitive advantage by having the

best trained and skilled people working on disruptive technologies.
